Brewery Wilskracht
Ravenstein & surroundings
Ravenstein, small town on the Meuse, with a rich history. City rights since 1380. For centuries a plaything in the fights between lords of the land and religions. Ongoing construction and demolition of churches, bastions, gates and ramparts. Cozy historic city centre full of national monuments. A ferry crosses the river Maas to Niftrik from the small harbour. Lovely walks in the polder along the Brabant Meuse. At Demen, another ferry departs for the castle village of Batenburg.
The old windmill, the tallest in Brabant, towers over the city centre. Home of city brewery Wilskracht, named after its two founders. Small brewery, tasting room with terrace. 'Local brewing with care and passion'. Over ten Belgian and German-style beers with medieval names. Ranging from Lucia's Light, a white IPA with 3.3% alcohol, and the Stoute Schout, a 5.5% stout, to the sturdy Bolwerck 10, a Quadruple of, the name says it all, 10%.
Ravenstein station is located on the outskirts of town about a kilometre from the town centre. Follow the Stationssingel along the railway, once it turns right you will see the high mill of Ravsenstein ahead.
